Europe: 4 new substances of very high concern have been added to the SVHC List
What substances have been added to the Candidate List?
ECHA, on request of the European Commission or a Member State, may propose a substance to be identified as of very high concern (SVHC). If the substance is identified as such, it will be added to the Candidate List for its eventual inclusion in the authorisation list (REACH Annex XIV).
The inclusion of a substance in the Candidate List creates law obligations for the companies producing, importing or using these substances as such, in preparations or in articles.
On June 25th 2020, four substances have been added to the Candidate List, some of which are used as catalysts in industrial processes with one substance used in personal care products:
- 1-vinylimidazole (CAS 1072-63-5)
- 2-methylimidazole (CAS 693-98-1)
- Dibutylbis(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O')tin (CAS 22673-19-4)
- Butyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (Butylparaben) (CAS 94-26-8)
