Australia Approves New Mushroom Species for Import

On January 22, 2025, the Australian Government, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, approved “Hypsizygus marmoreus under existing conditions for mushroom import”.
The key points are as follows:

Hypsizygus marmoreus, now recognized as a synonym of Hypsizygus tessulatus, has been included in the BICON cases for human consumption and propagation;

The species can now be imported into Australia under the same import requirements;

Import conditions for other mushroom categories remain unchanged;

This notice applies to mushroom importers, customs brokers, and departmental staff.
The rule is effective from January 22, 2025.
