On August 19th, 2024, the Federal Register of Legislation published Consolidated Text on “Nutrition, health and related claims (Schedule 4)”
Key provisions outlines are as given below:
- Outlines the conditions for making accurate nutrition content claims about fatty acids, sugars, and other nutrients;
- Specifies the requirements for health claims, both general and high-level, including the need for scientific evidence and adherence to criteria related to the food’s characteristics;
- Highlights the importance of serving sizes and reference quantities in vitamin and mineral claims to ensure they follow dietary guidelines;
- Defines terms like "sugars," "carbohydrates," and "fatty acids" to ensure clarity in food Labeling.
