On March 04, 2021, Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) under the authority of Pest Control Products Act issued Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides Chlormequat Chloride PMRL 2020-38.
The regulation summarizes the following information for immediate implementation:
- Addition of the food product Oat Bran and Barley Bran to the list of Livestock commodities.
- Evaluation of Chlormequat chloride application indicated that the end-use product has value and the human health and environmental risks associated with the new uses are acceptable.
- The proposed maximum residue limits for plant and animal products are set out at various levels in ppm.
- Maximum residual limits allowed for Chlormequat chloride in wheat bran is 15 ppm, Barley bran 20 ppm and Oat bran 80 ppm and for certain animal products such as Meat of poultry, Fat of poultry 0.5 ppm; Milk 0.4 ppm, Eggs 0.09 ppm etc.
