On 26th June 2024, the Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency issued draft notification on “Proposed Maximum Residue Limit of Abamectin (PMRL2024-13)”.
The following points are highlighted in the consultation:
- The Changes in the MRLs are proposed according to Japanese and US standards to harmonize Canadian laws with international standards;
- Applies to the trade of tea, fruits and vegetables;
- Maximum residue limits on carrots, sweet corn, pineapples, guavas, papayas, lychees, tea, and dried chive leaves are being reviewed;
- The recommended MRLs in Tea is 1ppm, Guava and Pineapple is 0.015ppm, Tropical and subtropical fruits is 0.01ppm etc;
- Evaluations of the acute and long-term dietary risks indicate that Abamectin intake in given food categories is safe for consumption.
A final judgment will be made after taking into account all comments submitted within 75 days of the publication date.
