On September 17, 2024, the Health Canada issued a regulation on the “Maximum Residue Limit for Pyridate PMRL2024-18”.

 The draft regulation highlights the following points:

  • Proposes MRLs on dry soybeans and pulses, dried shelled peas (crop subgroup 6-21F, except dry lentils);
  • An increase in limit for meat byproducts to 0.6 ppm and a new MRL of 0.05 ppm for dry soybeans and pulses;
  • The risk assessment shows Pyridate exposure is under 21% of the Acceptable Acute Reference Dose (ARfD) for all subgroups, indicating no health risk from food;
  • Chronic exposure to below 43% of the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), indicating that long-term consumption of treated food is safe and within acceptable limits;
  • The MRL changes also apply to these foods being imported into Canada.

The consultation period is valid till December 1, 2024.
