On October 23, 2024, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published notice on the “Export Requirements for Fish and Seafood to Australia”.
The key points are summarized below:
- The products eligible for export are Fish products (various types), non-salmonid fish oil, Specific prawn products (e.g., uncooked processed, cooked), Fresh/frozen salmonid products;
- Products must meet Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code for contaminants, therapeutants and microbiological limits;
- Salmonid must be from approved species and must follow heat treatment protocols and require import permits for certain products;
- Labels must be in English including contents and origin with required certificates for various product categories (e.g., Health Certificate for prawns);
- Establishments must comply with Canadian regulations and be licensed under SFCR with products requiring a valid import permit from Australia.
