Canada publishes List of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Veterinary Drugs in Foods
On May 31, 2021, the Department of Health Canada published the “List of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Veterinary Drugs in Foods” by including the proposed MRL 2020-01 to the List.
- The published MRL ensures the safety of foods produced in Canada from food-producing animals treated with veterinary drugs
- Additions to the name of the substance for drug analysis purposes (Column II) of Fenbendazole to Fenbendazole sulfone and Fenbendazole sulfoxide.
- Revised MRLs in foods (Column III) set for Ivermectin
- The standards set MRLs in the tissues and food products from food-producing animals.
- The foods containing veterinary drug residues up to the established MRL levels are safe for human consumption.
The regulation is effective from May 31, 2021.
