Chile Proposes Draft Rules on Labelling of Food Supplements

On August 16, 2019, the Health Ministry of Chile has released new draft guidelines regarding the labelling of food supplements:

  • “Guidelines for the Declaration of Nutrient Function Properties in Food Supplements“, related to declarations that may be used on iron, zinc, folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin D and calcium.
  • “Authorized Nutritional Properties on Food Supplements“, stating conditions for claims on calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, sugar etc.
  • “Nutritional Guidelines on Food Supplements and Supplemented Foods and Their Contents in Vitamins, Minerals and Other Substances“, that proposes new minimum and maximum values for amino acids, caffein, lactase, fietary fiber and probiotics, among others.
