EU Amends Maximum Residues Levels for Fenbuconazole and Penconazole

On February 4, 2025, the European Union (EU) updated “Maximum Residues Levels (MRLs) for Fenbuconazole and Penconazole” per Regulation (EU) 2025/195 amending Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.

The document summarizes the following:
  • Fenbuconazole MRLs is lowered to the limit of determination (LOD) for several crops, tree nuts, grapes, bananas, due to data gaps on Triazole Derivative Metabolites (TDMs);
  • Limits for fenbuconazole in grapefruits, oranges, and peaches reduced to Codex levels, while those for lemons, limes, mandarins etc., remain unchanged;
  • MRLs for liver, kidney, and offals of farmed terrestrial animals remain the same, however, milk is reduced from 0.05 mg/kg to 0.01 mg/kg;
  • Penconazole limits has been increased for blackberries, raspberries, pome fruits, and plums based on new residue data;
  • A new Codex Maximum Residue Limit (CXL) for fenbuconazole in green and black tea has been adopted. 

The regulation is effective from August 24, 2025.
