On July 27, 2021, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) submitted a request to the competent national authority in France on “Modification of the existing maximum residue levels for Benzovindiflupyr in leeks and spring onions/green onions/Welsh onions” in accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.
The scope of the assessment is briefly summarized below:
- The conducted safety evaluation was found to be sufficient to derive MRL proposals for the crops.
- Adequate analytical methods for enforcement are available to control the residues of Benzovindiflupyr at the validated limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.01 mg/kg.
- The toxicological profile of Benzovindiflupyr was assessed in the framework of the EU pesticides derive an acute reference dose (ARfD) of 0.1 mg/kg body weight (bw) and an acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0.05 mg/kg bw per day.
- Short-term and long-term intake of residues resulting from the use of benzovindiflupyr is unlikely to present a risk to consumer health.
