On March 28th, 2022, the European Food Safety Authority published an article on the “Modification of the existing maximum residue level for apricots and setting of import tolerances for cyantraniliprole in various crops” in accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.
The document summarizes the below:
- The data is found to be sufficient to derive MRL proposals for apricots, potatoes, tropical root and tuber vegetables, cucurbits (inedible peel), lettuces, etc.;
- The risk assessment indicates the dietary intake of residues of cyantraniliprole is unlikely to present a risk to consumer health;
- The health risk for consumers could not be concluded and derived for the degradation products IN-N5M09 and IN-F6L99 formed during cooking/boiling;
- Concerns on genotoxicity for both compounds have been ruled out and general toxicity has not been addressed;
- The indicative exposure calculated by the EMS and EFSA for these compounds is affected by non-standard uncertainties;
- Estimated exposure related to both degradation products is unlikely to be of safety concern for the crops under assessment.
