EU Publishes Amendment on Maximum Levels for certain Contaminants in Food

On 26th June, 2024, the European Commission published regulation amending and correcting “Regulation (EU) 2023/915 on maximum levels for certain contaminants in food” in accordance with Part A and B of the Annex to this Regulation.

The major changes stated are as follows:

  • Specific rules on sampling and analysis for the control of maximum levels for ergot sclerotia in unprocessed cereals are being replaced with new regulations;
  • Adjusting maximum toxin levels for T-2 and HT-2 in bakery products, as many exceed the oats threshold of 90%;
  • Updating sampling and analysis rules for tropane alkaloids in baby food and cereal-based products per new regulations;
  • Maximum residue of Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in infants and young children is applied for products placed on the market as powder and for the liquid;
  • The regulation also replaces certain outdated references.
