On January 17th, 2022, the European Food Safety Authority published the article on “Review of the existing maximum residue levels for Isoxaben according to Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005”.
The scope of the safety assessment summarizes the following:
- To assess the occurrence of Isoxaben residues in plants, processed commodities, rotational crops, and livestock;
- The maximum levels proposed in certain fruits from 0.02 mg/kg to 0.01 mg/kg, also certain nuts and cereals were proposed from the existing 0.05 mg/kg to 0.01 mg/kg;
- Consumer risk assessment indicated no apparent risk to consumers on the consumption of these products;
- Residues in all commodities were found to be below 0.1 mg/kg and the total theoretical maximum daily intake was observed at 10% of the ADI;
- Information related to the regulatory framework and MRLs proposed still requires further investigation.
