On September 17, 2024, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) updates existing “Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for the active substance Cycloxydim in pome fruits, apricots, peas, maize, sugar beet roots, and sheep milk”.
The document discusses the following points:
- EFSA found the proposed uses likely pose no risk to consumer health, as exposure is below toxicological reference values;
- The EMS proposed MRLs of 0.4 mg/kg for pome fruits, 9 mg/kg for peas (with pods), and 0.3 mg/kg for both maize/corn and sugar beet roots, with no changes for apricots/peaches and sheep's milk;
- Acute exposure remained within toxicological limits, with long-term dietary intake at a maximum of 1.96% of the ADI;
- An acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0.07 mg/kg bw and an acute reference dose of 2 mg/kg bw were set, with metabolites no more toxic than the parent compound.
