On October 20th, 2023, the Board of Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued notice on “Use of Alpha-glucosidase from GM Trichoderma reesei in Brewing” per section 92 of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991.
The notice highlights the following points:
- The Schedule varies a Standard in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code;
- To enable the use of the enzyme in Brewing as a Processing aid in the manufacture and/or processing of beer;
- To permit the use of the enzyme under Schedule 18 of the code with the existing conditions stating the maximum permitted level of the enzyme in food must be consistent with GMP.
The regulation is effective from October 30th, 2023.
