On April 22, 2021, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has proposed an application on a new form of vitamin B3 in the Food Standards Code and calls for public opinion.
- The scope of the application is to seek approval to use nicotinamide riboside chloride as a form of vitamin B3
- Application for use in food for special medical purposes (FSMPs)
- The Code refers to vitamin B3 compounds as niacin in FSMPs.
- FSMPs partially or totally replace the daily diet and are recommended for use under medical supervision.
- No safety concerns associated with the use of nicotinamide riboside chloride as a form of niacin in FSMPs
The draft is open for public comments until May 20, 2021.
