FSANZ Publishes Food Standards Code Revision (2020) Variation

On June 02, 2021, the Food Standard Australia and New Zealand published regulation on the Food Standards (Proposal P1051 – Code Revision (2020)) Variation. The regulation amends various standards and schedules.
The focal points of the scientific document are summarized here:
- Omission by substitution of GRAS list of flavouring substances published by FEMA edition 28 to edition 29.
- Typographical updates on the labelling requirements of date marking, nutritional information and microbiological limits in food.
- The instrument will amend the following standards and schedules listed below:
Standard 2.2.3 – Fish and fish products
Standard 2.6.3 – Kava
Standard 4.2.3 – Primary production and processing standard for meat
Standard 4.2.4 – Primary production and processing standard for dairy products
Schedule 11 – Calculation of values for nutrition information panel
Schedule 15 – Substances that may be used as food additives
Schedule 18 – Processing aids
Schedule 19 – Maximum levels of contaminants and natural toxicants
Schedule 20 – Maximum residue limits
Schedule 25 – Permitted novel foods
Schedule 27 – Microbiological limits in food
Schedule 29 – Special purpose foods
