India Issues Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) First Amendment Regulations 2023

On August 22nd, 2023, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India published an article on the “Gazette notification of Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) First Amendment Regulations, 2023” per the Food Safety Standards Act of 2006.
The document highlights the following key points:
- The Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulations, 2018 is amended;
- Sub-regulation 2.8.1 related to Malt or grain whisky is substituted as Single Malt or Single grain whisky;
- Alcoholic beverages shall not contain any nutritional information on the label except energy content;
- Declaration related to energy content (kcal) shall be voluntary.
The regulation will be effective from March 1st, 2024.
