India Issues Operationalization of Maximum Residue Limits of Pesticides Used in Tea

On April 27, 2023, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India published a notification on the “Operationalization of MRL of Pesticides used in Tea” per Section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The main changes in the regulation emphasize as follows:
- Regulation affects the following pesticides namely, Quinalphos, Fenpyroximate, Hexaconazole, etc.;
- The pesticides are widely used for crop protection in Tea plantations;
- The maximum limits for Fenpyroximate and Propiconazole are 6.0 mg/kg, Quinalphos at 0.7, etc.;
- MRLs have been revised upwards based on a draft notification dated August 20, 2020.
The regulation is effective from April 27, 2022.
