Japanese Government Publishes New Specifications And Standards For Foods

On January 11, 2019, the Ministry on Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) published the “Partial Amendment of Specifications And Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc.“ (MHLW Ordinance No. 7 of 2019), with impact on non-alcoholic beverage industries.

The main focus is on the presence of arsenic, manganese, nitrite nitrogen and boron components in drinking water.

The standard repeals the specifications under the documents “Proposed Revision of the Standards and Specifications for Foods and Food Additives under the Food Sanitation Act (For Mineral Water and Beverages)” and “Proposed Revision On Specifications and Standards For Non-alcoholic Beverages.”
