Korea Issues Amendment on Food Additives

On March 09 2021, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released the "Partial Amendment on Korea Food Additives Code / Korea Food Additives Standard and Specification (No.2021-19)".
The scientific document underlines the following information:
- The scope of recognition of natural occurrence of food additives is expanded.
- The provision for the natural occurrence of benzoic acid is newly established.
- Benzoic acid detected below 0.02 g/kg in food except the ingredients of animal origin can be considered as natural occurrence.
- The use level of the six food additives such as orbic acid is revised.
- The general use level of sterilizing agent and food-contact surface sanitizing solutions is revised.
- The analytical methods for the eight food additives such as 5'-Ribonucleotides and manufacturing methods of fuchsin sulfurous acid are revised.
The amendment is effective from March 9th, 2021.
