On January 30, 2023, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea issued regulation the “Partial Amendment of the Korea Food Standard and Specification (No. 2023-38)” to revise the Food additives Standards and Specification per notice no. 2022-77 and article 46 of the Administrative Procedure Act.
The document emphasizes the following key points:
- Harmonization with international standards and establishment of new ingredients for 6 items of 5'-guanyl acid such as 5'-guanylic acid; 5'-potassium guanylate, 5'-potassium inosinate, etc.;
- The standard revises the use of health functional food Copper Chlorophylls and uses standard maintenance for 17 types of food colors;
- Clarification of usage standards for substances such as methyl paraoxybenzoate and Ethyl paraoxybenzoate;
- The standards also propose modification for the use of Titanium dioxide and Calcium triphosphate in special-use food and in the case of health functional foods in accordance with the applicable standards.
The draft regulation is open for public consultation period until March 30, 2023.
