On March 21st, 2022, New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries issued a notice on the “Proposals to Amend the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds) Food Notice”. The Notice is issued under section 405 of the Food Act 2014.
The document outlines the below:
- Addition of new entries in the Notice for the following compounds - Fenpyroximate, Fluensulfone, Prednisolone, etc.;
- Proposes MRLs for Fenpyroximate at 0.1 mg/kg for pome fruits, Fluensulfone at 0.6 mg/kg for carrots, 0.6 mg/kg for parsnips;
- Animal products have been proposed for Prednisolone at 0.004 mg/kg for cattle fat, 0.01 mg/kg for cattle kidney, 0.01 mg/kg for cattle liver, 0.004 mg/kg for cattle meat, etc.;
- The amendment of the existing entry of Fludioxonil, to add MRL of 0.01 mg/kg for potatoes and Fluopyram to amend the MRL of 0.01 mg/kg to 0.07 mg/kg for bulb onions;
- Proposes to add melatonin to schedule 3 of Veterinary Medicines for which No Maximum Residue Level applies;
- Usage of the pesticides according to Good Agricultural Practices is unlikely to pose any health risks to consumers under the authorized use;
- MRL compliance and dietary risk assessment residue definitions are included in the proposal.
The public consultation period is valid until May 19th, 2022.
