New Zealand Proposes to Amend Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds

On March 16, 2025, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and New Zealand Food Safety proposed amendments to the “Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for Agricultural Compounds”.
The document summarizes the following:
- Glyphosate MRLs are set at 10 mg/kg for wheat, barley, oats, and 6 mg/kg for dried peas;
- MRLs for Haloxyfop is introduced at 0.02 mg/kg for mammalian meat and fat, 0.5 mg/kg for offal, 0.002 mg/kg for milk;
- Methamidophos is banned, its MRLs have merged with acephate due to breakdown residue;
- Flupyradifurone MRLs are set to 0.1 mg/kg for fat and meat, 0.4 mg/kg for offal, 0.05 mg/kg for milk;
- Revised MRLs for Maduramicin at 0.1 mg/kg for poultry meat, 1 mg/kg for offal, 0.5 mg/kg for liver.
The Consultation is open for public comments till May 16, 2025.
