On February 16, 2018, New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industry has released “Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds 2018” in schedule 1 of the Food Notice.
The total of eight substances with sixteen food categories have added new MRLs or amended existing MRLs, which includes substances of Chlormequat, Fluopyram, Fluralaner, Fluxapyroxad, Halofuginone, Lignocaine, Oxathiapiprolin and Trifloxystrobin.
MPI amended Schedule 2 of the Food Notice to exempt active ingredients that are foods or permitted food additives from compliance with a MRL when the treated commodity is at point of sale in compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. However, if the food is listed in the section 1.1.2 of Australia New Zealand Food as a novel food and/or the composition of the active ingredients has been refined to a level exceeding what is common for the food, this exception could not be used.
