Philippines Revises Guidelines on Vitamin & Mineral Classification for Supplements

On January 6, 2025, the Department of Health, Food and Drug Administration Philippines, updated the Guidelines on “Vitamins and Minerals Classification under Processed Food Products”.

The document summarizes the following points:

  • Maximum limits for vitamins and minerals in dietary supplements for adults, shall align with Philippine Dietary Recommended Intakes (PDRI) and International Standards;
  • Supplements for infants, children, and pregnant/lactating women excluded, with separate PDRI guideline;
  • Labelling shall comply with provisions of AO No. 2014-0030 or Order no. 88-B s. 1984 or Bureau Circular 02 s. 1999 and any other related issuance or latest revisions;
  • Dietary supplement manufacturers, importers, and distributors to receive transition period from the authority;
  • Order No. 22 s. 1991 entitled "Guidelines for the Classification of Vitamins and Minerals as Drug or as Food” is repealed.

The notice is effective from January 22, 2025.
