On January 11, 2019, the European Commission published the draft “COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) …/… on reference points for action for non-allowed pharmacologically active substances present in food of animal origin and repealing Decision 2005/34/EC“
The main purposes of the document are the following:
- Setting rules for the establishment of reference values (‘reference points for action’) and providing limits for chloramphenicol, malachite green and nitrofurans and their metabolites;
- Laying down methodological principles and scientific methods for the risk assessment of the safety of reference points for action;
- Determining actions to follow in case of confirmed presence of a prohibited or non-allowed substance.
