On June 23, 2023, the Scottish Ministers published a regulation on the “Cereal Seed (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2023 No. 193” per sections 16(1), (3) and (4), and 36 of the Plant Varieties and Seeds Act 1964.
The following key points are highlighted in this document:
- The regulation amends the Cereal Seed (Scotland) Regulations 2005;
- Specifying the standards about the seed of hybrids of durum wheat, spelt wheat, etc.;
- To specify the minimum distances between Cytoplasmic male sterility crops and neighboring crops;
- The testing requirements shall be met before the seed of hybrids can be certified;
- The varietal purity standard of certified seed is established at 90.00%.
The regulation is effective from October 06, 2023.
