On April 1, 2025, the UK Government announced that “Vietnam has granted market access for British live seafood products”, opening new opportunities for growth and trade.
Key updates from the announcement:
- Vietnam now allows imports of UK live seafood including lobster and brown crab;
- The new access is expected to bring in £20 million to the UK seafood industry over five years;
- Vietnamese importers are offering competitive prices for lesser-demand UK seafood, creating a valuable new revenue stream for UK traders;
- UK seafood exports to Vietnam rose 40% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to 2023;
- Vietnam’s high seafood consumption (37kg per person annually) makes it a valuable market.
