UK Secures Major Seafood Export Boost with Vietnam

On April 1, 2025, the UK Government announced that “Vietnam has granted market access for British live seafood products”, opening new opportunities for growth and trade.

Key updates from the announcement:

• Vietnam now allows imports of UK live seafood including lobster and brown crab; 
• The new access is expected to bring in £20 million to the UK seafood industry over five years;
• Vietnamese importers are offering competitive prices for lesser-demand UK seafood, creating a valuable new revenue stream for UK traders; 
• UK seafood exports to Vietnam rose 40% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to 2023;
• Vietnam’s high seafood consumption (37kg per person annually) makes it a valuable market.
