On January 24th, 2022, the U.S Federal Register published an article by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency on “Nitrapyrin; Pesticide Tolerances, 40 CFR 180.350, 87 FR 3446”.
The scope of the document is highlighted below:
- The regulation establishes tolerances for residues of Nitrapyrin in or on cottonseed, crop subgroup 20C; cotton, gin byproducts; cotton, meal; rice, grain; and rice, straw;
- Tolerances set for Nitrapyrin in or on cottonseed crop subgroup 20C at 4 parts per million (ppm); cotton, gin byproducts at 0.6 ppm; cotton, meal at 6 ppm; and rice, grain at 0.03 ppm;
- Rice straw is no longer considered a significant livestock feed; hence tolerances were deemed unnecessary;
- Risk exposures and tolerances limits resulting from the use of pesticides on the given food products are unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.
The regulation is effective from January 24th, 2022.
