On July 15th, 2022, the U.S Federal Register published an article by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency on “Tribenuron Methyl; Pesticide Tolerances, 40 CFR 180.451, 87 FR 42332” and “Benoxacor; Pesticide Tolerances, 40 CFR 180.460, 87 FR 42327”.
The document highlights the following:
- The regulation establishes tolerances for residues of Tribenuron Methyl in or on multiple commodities;
- The regulation amends tolerances for residues of Benoxacor in or on field corn, popcorn, and sweet corn commodities as an inert ingredient (herbicide safener) in pesticide formulations;
- The residue tolerance of Benoxacor includes its metabolites and degradates in or on corn, field, grain; corn, sweet, kernel plus cob with husks removed; and corn, sweet, stover at 0.01 ppm;
- For the pesticide Tribenuron Methyl the regulation revised the tolerance for oat, hay from 0.05 ppm to 0.4 ppm to align with the hay tolerances for other cereal grain commodities;
- Risk assessment data ensures that the safety of infants and the general population is adequately protected;
- Short‐term, intermediate-term, and chronic exposures of residues resulting from the tolerance on these food products are unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.
This regulation is effective July 15th, 2022.
