On February 09th, 2022, the U.S Federal Register published a regulation by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency on “Fludioxonil; Pesticide Tolerances, 40 CFR 180.516, 87 FR 7388”.
The scope of the document highlights the following:
- The regulation establishes and amends tolerances for residues of fludioxonil in or on multiple crops;
- The pesticide tolerances are established on various nuts at 0.01 ppm such as the African Tree Nut, Brazil nut, Bur oak, Butternut, Cajou, Cashew, etc.;
- Leaf petiole vegetable subgroup 22B at 15 ppm; Leafy greens subgroup 4–16A at 30 ppm;
- Amends the tolerance for Dragon fruit to 20 ppm, Pistachio to 0.1 ppm, and the tolerance for Vegetable, tuberous, and corm, subgroup 1C to 6 ppm;
- The commodity definition for Vegetable, legume, group 6 is amended to Vegetable, legume, group 6, except bean while maintaining the tolerance at 0.01 ppm;
- The following tolerances are removed as unnecessary due to the establishment of the above tolerances: Carrots at 7.0 ppm; Cotton, undelinted seed at 0.05 ppm; Leaf petioles subgroup 4B at 15 ppm, etc.;
- Removes the tolerance for the Melon subgroup, since it is unnecessary due to the tolerance for cucurbit vegetables, group 9 at 0.45 ppm;
- Risk assessment data ensures that the safety of infants and the general population is adequately protected based on the Toxicological profile and dietary exposure;
- Short‐term and long‐term intake of residues resulting from the use of tolerance on these food products is unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.
The regulation is effective from February 09th, 2022.
