On November 8th, 2022, the U.S Federal Register published a regulation by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency on “Nitric Acid; Exemption From the Requirement of a Tolerance”.
The scientific document includes the following points for consideration:
- The regulation establishes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of Nitric acid when used as an inert ingredient (pH adjuster);
- The limit of Application to crops and raw agricultural commodities pre- and post-harvest shall not exceed 10% by weight in the pesticide formulation;
- The regulation eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of Nitric acid when used per the terms of the exemption;
- Short‐term, intermediate-term and dietary exposures to residues resulting from the tolerance are unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.
The regulation is effective from November 8th, 2022.
