On October 25, 2024, the US Federal Register published regulation on the “Time-limited tolerances for pesticide residues on certain agricultural commodities” under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

The key points are indicated as follows:

  • The tolerance for sodium salt of Acifluorfen residues is 0.1 ppm on sugar beet roots and leaves are extended to control glyphosate-resistant pigweed;
  • Tolerances for Thiamethoxam residues are 6 ppm on rice grain and 2 ppm on rice straw to control rice delphacid;
  • 5 ppm tolerance for Clothianidin residues on rice grain applies to rice produced under emergency exemptions as it is a metabolite of Thiamethoxam;
  • Safety of these pesticide residues shall comply with the safety standard under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA);
  • These tolerances are temporary and will expire on December 31, 2027.
