On March 11th, 2024, the USDA FSIS published scientific document on the “Guidelines on Label Approval”. The guidance is reissued based on the final rule “Voluntary Labeling of FSIS-Regulated Products with U.S. Origin Claims”.
The scope of the document includes the following:
- To help establishments determine whether their labels must be submitted to FSIS’ Labeling and Program Delivery Staff (LPDS) for approval;
- Establishments to comply with the new regulatory requirements under the final rule on the next uniform compliance date for new labeling regulations, January 1, 2026;
- FSIS added the section “Product of USA,” “Made in the USA,” and Other Voluntary U.S.-Origin Claims” that explains the requirements for the voluntary U.S.-origin label claims;
- The appendices provides a clear and concise details on the new and the existing changes;
- The guideline is final and replaces the previous version dated January 2023.
