On November 25, 2024, the US Federal Register established “Maximum permissible level for residues of various fragrance components” per 40 CFR 180.940(a).
The key points are as follows:
- Applies to food contact surfaces in public eating places, dairy-processing equipment, and food processing equipment and utensils;
- The exemption applies to components used in antimicrobial formulations for food-contact surfaces at 33 ppm;
- The risk assessments pose no health issues to the general population, or to infants and children.
The rule is effective November 25, 2024, and the public can submit objections or requests for hearings by January 24, 2025.
